Le Tour De Stort
Le Tour De Stort offers a tough but achievable challenge for Club members, with four days of back-to-back racing over a variety of distances and terrains.
The aim should of course be to do all four races, but it is not a requirement - if you can only make one, two or three, then please come along for those. Remember too that the second race, the Clapgate Clamber, also scores for the Club Hill Running Championship.
This year's Tour starts with a morning race on Sunday 10th July from the Club house, and is followed by three evening races. The final run is from the Club-house on the Weds 13th July as part of our normal Club night.
We don't have a Yellow Jersey for the race leader, unlike the other famous Tour that happens around the same time somewhere over in France, but we do have Hot Spot Sprints and time bonuses on the first three days to add some interest.
A special feature of the TDS is the age-graded result, for which competition is just as keen as the overall standings. Runners' actual times are reduced by a percentage according to age and gender if they are over 35, which seems to be many of us these days!
The age-grading gives rise to a mythical 'Grey Jersey' for the fastest oldie - in some years this has also been held by the overall winner but as it's "one prize only" for the TDS, the next quickest Vet gets the honour.
On the final night, after a shower and well-deserved beer (or wine), lavishly engraved certificates are presented to all successful finishers. The winners get a small prize and the acclaim of the multitude.
