Stortford Tri Race Results
Joanne Hewitt took part in the Northwest Sprint Triathlon held in Nantwichon Sunday 20/09. This event consisted of a 500m swim in a brine pool, a 20k
bike and a 5k run. Jo finished in a time of 1:18:33. Individual discipline
times are: swim 10:14, bike (inc T1) 43:40, run(inc T2) 24:39.
The Club also held its half yearly duathlon on Sunday, over a course
of 3.5k
run, 20k bike and 3k run, through the villages around Bishops Stortford.
22 members of the running club took part, with ideal conditions for the
event, some taking part in this type of event for the first time. The
event
was won by Joe Schroder in a time of 60:58, and following on from her
Ironman success Viv Law was first lady in 69:45, and all competitors were
treated to a cooked breakfast afterwards.
Lars Hyllsted took part in the Hillerod triathlon in Denmark last weekend.
This consisted of a 500m swim, followed by a 40k bike and a 10.5k run.
He
finished in 22nd place overall, coming in 2nd place in his age category
in
a time of 2:02:14.

7 members of Stortford Tri took part in the first RG Active Aquathon
on
Saturday 22nd. It was held at Roydon Mill Lake in Harlow and consisted
of a
900m swim followed by a 1.9k run around the lake. Teams from 3 clubs took
part in the event and raised over £100 for charity.
In the Ladies events Pauline Stroud came 3rd overall in the over 40 category
in a time of 43mins. Debbie Binks also finished in 3rd overall in the
under
40 category in a time of 38mins. In the Mens over 40 category Peter Winfield
won the group in a time of 23mins and Alan Findlay finished 3rd overall
in
27mins. Other members taking part were Pete Binks (26mins), Louise Baker
(swim 30mins) and Seonaid Brooks (swim 35mins).
2 members represented Stortford Tri in the Cambridge Triathlon held in
Mepal
just outside Ely on Sunday 16th August. This was an Olympic distance event
consisting of 1500m open water swim, 40k bike and a 10k run hosted by
Cambridge Tri. It was a very hot and windy day over a flat but exposed
bike
course.
Pete Binks finished in 27th place overall out of approx 170 competitors,
and
registered the 13th fastest bike time day. He completed the event in 2:19:52
(a pb by 8mins): times for the individual disciplines were swim 29:35
(inc
transition), bike 1:05:03 (inc transition), run 45:24.
Sarah Croot also completed the event in 3:09:40 (also a pb by 9 mins).
Her
splits were swim 37:39, bike 1:30:57 and run 1:01:04.
The same weekend Hyde Park was the setting for the Sprint and Olympic
distance triathlons which took place on what will be the 2012 Olympic
Triathlon course. Pete Winfield took part in the Olympic-distance event
on
Sunday comprising a 1500m open water swim, 40k bike (6 laps of the park)
and
a 10k run. Pete was competing against GB age-group team athletes going
to
the ITU World Championships in Australia next month. Pete came 3rd in
his
age group in a time of 2:24:18, splits swim 22:05, bike 1:07:56; run 49:26
-
a fantastic result having had only a week's recovery since competing in
the
ITU European Long Distance Champs in Prague last weekend.
Chris Brolly took part in a sprint distance triathlon on Saturday also
on
the in Hyde Park as part of the weekend of triathlon. He finished in 348th
place in a field of 394 in a time of 1:32:47; swim 16:36, bike 47:47,
run
21:07.
Octavia Chambers completed the Juelsminde half Danish on Sunday 9th August.
This was a Half Ironman triathlon in Denmark consisting of a 1900m open
water swim, a 90k bike followed by a 21k run. Despite being stung in the
face by a jellyfish she managed to finish in a time of 6:06:11 and come
second in her age group. Her splits were swim 38mins; bike 2:59:58 and
run
2:22:10.

Prague
on Saturday 8th August

race was put together by, what can only be described as, a very
inexperienced team. Pre race information was very sparse and it was not
a
very exciting course to race over. Race day was very hot and there was
inadequate refreshments at the feed stations that added to the challenges
already faced by the athletes. The general consensus - not a flagship
ETU
event.

The inaugural Eastern Regional Relay took place at Gosfield Lake near
Braintree on 12th July. Three teams from Stortford Tri took part in the
event consisting of a 750m open water swim, a 20k bike and a 5k mixed
terrain run. Each team consisted of 3 team members who each took turns
to
complete each discipline. There were 88 teams taking part in the event,
which was hosted by Born 2 Tri.
Despite a wet start to the day, the showers stopped prior to the start,
it
got very windy on the bike and then the sun came out for the run. Each
team
member was given a colour either red , white or blue and this determined
the
order they took part in each of the disciplines.
The Stortford Dare Devils consisting of Pete Binks, Octavia Chambers
and
Lars Hyllested (over from Denmark especially for the event) finished in
5th
place overall in the mixed team category in an overall time of 3:37:17.
The
Centurians consisting of Viv Law, Marion Dutton and Kev Scott finished
in
9th place overall in the mixed category and the Dancing Dolphins of Birgit
Schalow, Debbie Binks and Alan Findlay finished in 13th place in the mixed
category.
