Multisport Diary
Updates
After a long period of few updates, there are efforts afoot to bring new content to the multisport pages.
In the meantime, to get a flavour of the events the multi-sporting members get involved in, check out:
BSRC Triathlon and Multi-sport Section
An increasing number of running club members are taking to triathlon and multi-sport events.
This section of the website has been setup to bring those doing triathlon, duathlon, adventure racing, road biking, mountain biking, etc together.
Peter Winfield is the new multi-sports representative on the committee as well as being our triathlon coach (BTA level 2).
Many thanks to Lars for his contributions over the past few years since the committee position was introduced.
We have recently revived an email group to provide a forum for interested Club members to discuss multisport issues without filling the mailboxes of those only interested in running.
Please email Peter if you wish to join or have any problems doing so.
Over the next few weeks we will be making up the winter training programme - currently we are trying to identify a suitable time and location for both turbo sessions and swimming sessions.
Details will appear here and on the email group.

Club duathlon coming up
Being run for the second time this year, the Club duathlon is back by popular demand on the morning of Sunday 12th October (time to be confirmed) from our clubhouse.
Any bike will do - the aim is to get out there and experience an event combining running and biking.
Format is run/bike/run with distances approx 4.5km / 16km / 4km.
Your bikes will be looked after in the transition zone wile you are out running. There is a sign-up sheet in the Club house, or let us know you want to do it using the emails above.
Bedford Sprint Distance - Sunday 5th October
Eight members of the running club’s multi-sport section took part in the third and final triathlon in the Bedford sprint distance race series.
Based at Robinson Pool, Bedford, the sprint triathlons have involved a 400m pool swim, followed by a 24km bike and finished with a 5km multi-lap run in Bedford Park.
Going into this final race, Octavia Chambers was lying in 4th position in the women’s league table for the series after posting an age group win with a time of 1hr 18min 16sec in May followed by a 2nd age group place with 1:15:58 (shortened bike route) in June.
With only 7 seconds to 3rd place in the series and 36s to 2nd place, there was a strong possibility of Octavia making it onto the podium.
With wet and windy conditions greeted the squad on Sunday morning, there were unlikely to be any records set, and competitors were going to have to be careful out on the bikes to avoid crashes.
First home for the club was Alasdair Bruce in a time of 1:08:55 finishing just outside the top ten, a few minutes behind his May time of 1:05:22, but not surprising given the conditions and for racing within a month of the Ironman triathlon.
Next home was Pete Binks in 1:14:52, also recovering from Ironman, but beating Lars Hyllested who was slowed by puncture problems on the bike.
With times of 1:10:11 and 1:06:21 giving him two age group wins in the first two races, Lars still managed to achieve 5th place in the series with a time of 1:25:27 in this final race.
Octavia Chambers lead the ladies home, with a 3rd place in her age category (25-29) in a time of 1:18:54.
She was followed home by Sarah Croot(1:39:02), Jo Hewitt (1:42:15), Debbie Binks (1:49:18) and Pauline Stroud (1:56:50).
With her excellent time in the conditions, Octavia was able to move up the rankings in the overall series and take 2nd position on the women’s podium.
