When
The Club meets at the clubhouse in Beldams Lane, every Wednesday at 19:30. This is the session that we recommend any new members come along to. If you are looking to come to the club for the first time, and you can't make it along on a Weds, then please get in touch via the Contacts page.
We also generally run two coached sessions a week - on Tuesday evening starting at 19:15 at Bishops Stortford Rugby Club at Silvers Leys on Hadham Road and Saturday mornings at various locations (see Diary page for venue details). A weekly club email lists what training sessions will be taking place and where.
We have traditionally run from the Clubhouse on a Sunday morning. Recently this has not been a regular session. We are keen to revive the Sunday morning runs from the Clubhouse, so please ask if you are interested. We are planning some organised sessions on Sundays - check the Club Diary for further information.
With a strong Triathlon and Multisport section in the Club we also have swimming and biking training sessions every week which are open to all BSRC members. Visit the Stortford Tri pages for more information.
Wednesday Evening Club nightThe most heavily attended gathering is on Wednesdays. The Clubhouse is open from 19:15 onwards for changing (earlier in summer). Runs vary in length between 3 and 10 miles depending on what people are training for. Most people are finished running by 9pm. After a nice hot shower, many members stay around for some food (bookable a week in advance), a drink and to chat with fellow runners.
At 19.35, there is a brief information session - key event/training announcements - from our Chairperson. Most runners wait around for this (though some who want to get a particularly long run do depart earlier). This is when we will also fix any new runners up with a running buddy to take them round one of our regular routes.
From April to August, the nearby Hatfield Forest is put to good use with runs typically ranging from 7-9 miles. From September through to March, Wednesday night runs head through and around the town of Bishops Stortford. These routes have a wider range in distance, anything from 3 miles through to a very popular 10 mile circumference of the town. Many regular battles are seen over this 10 mile course.
We have a top quality attending sports therapist, who is available at the club most Wednesdays at favourable rates to club members.
If you're coming along for the first time, feel free to give us a call before hand. We operate a 'buddy running' system to ensure all club attendees have the option to run with an allocated companion if they wish.
We are affiliated to the Hertfordshire A.A.A. , Essex A.A.A. and South of England A.A.
Where
Bishops Stortford is situated half way between London and Cambridge. Access is easiest from afar through the M11 motorway, junction 8. Stansted Airport is a 10 minute drive from the town.
BSRC headquarters is at Hockerill Sports & Social Club on the south-east of the town, on Beldams Lane off the A1060 Hallingbury Road. This position gives our membership instant access to the rural surroundings in which the town is set. Many of our training runs take place through the Hertfordshire countryside and in particular through nearby Hatfield Forest.
